Terms of service
These terms cover your use of this website and anything you buy or have repaired through it. Placing an order or booking work means you accept them. Retro & Rare Video Games & Repairs is the business behind this store, operating from 5 Miller Road South, #1, Asheville, NC 28803.
Who can order
You need to be at least 18, or have a parent or guardian handle the order. The information you give us has to be accurate.
What we sell
Most of our inventory is used and much of it is old. We describe condition honestly on every product page and photograph the actual item wherever we can. Read the description before you buy, and email us if you want more photos or detail. We will send them.
Some items are marked as parts, as-is, or untested. Those are sold exactly that way, and the refund policy covers what that means for returns.
Nearly everything we stock is one of a kind. If two people order the same item within seconds of each other, the second order gets cancelled and refunded in full.
Prices and mistakes
Prices are in US dollars and can change without notice. We work to keep listings accurate, but if an item is listed at an obviously wrong price or with a wrong description, we can cancel the order and refund you rather than honor the error. We will tell you before we do it.
Repair work
We diagnose first. You get a quote before we do any paid work, and nothing proceeds until you approve it. A few specifics:
- Old hardware sometimes fails in ways that only show up once it is open. If we find something beyond the original problem, we stop and come back to you with a revised quote.
- We cannot guarantee every repair is possible. Some parts no longer exist. If we cannot fix something, we will tell you what we found.
- Back up anything you care about before you hand over a device. Saves, memory cards, and hard drives can fail during service, and we cannot recover what is lost.
- Items left more than 60 days after we tell you the work is finished, and after we have tried to reach you, may be sold or recycled to cover what is owed.
- Repairs, games, controllers and consoles we sell are covered by our warranty. The full terms, including what is covered, for how long, and what voids a claim, are on our repairs and warranty page.
Trade-ins, buying, and recycling
We buy hardware, games, and collections outright, take trade-ins toward store credit or product, and recycle electronics we cannot resell.
When you sell or trade with us, you are confirming the items are yours to sell and are not stolen. We ask for a government-issued ID on buys and trades, as North Carolina law requires. Quotes depend on condition and completeness, and an offer made by email is subject to us seeing the item in person.
Payment
Payment is taken at checkout. We use Shopify's payment processing, and card details go to them, not to us. Orders are not reserved until payment clears.
Shipping and returns
Our shipping policy and refund policy are part of these terms. Please read both.
Using the site
Do not break into, overload, scrape, or otherwise interfere with the site, and do not use it for anything illegal.
The text, photographs, and design here belong to Retro & Rare Video Games & Repairs. Game titles, console names, and logos belong to their respective owners, and we use them only to describe what we sell and service.
If you send us a review, photo, or comment, you are giving us permission to publish it. We can edit or remove anything for length, accuracy, or tone.
Guarantees and liability
Beyond what we promise in writing in our refund policy and in any repair warranty we hand you, products and services are provided as they are. We do not promise a forty-year-old console will last forever, and we do not promise the site will be available without interruption.
To the extent the law allows, our liability for any order is limited to what you paid for it. Nothing here removes any right you have under North Carolina or federal consumer law.
Governing law and changes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, and any dispute belongs in the state or federal courts serving Buncombe County.
We can update these terms. The version posted here when you order is the one that covers that order.
